Geography Intent

In Geography at BVG our aim is to inspire our students to recognise their place in the world and develop a global ‘open-mindedness’ that celebrates our differences and challenges stereotypes. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to be active global citizens, with the power to ‘ask questions’ and an ability to shape and invest in our future. They should appreciate an ever-evolving world through the learning of people and places that are outside of their own experiences, developing their appreciation of the diversity of environments, peoples, cultures and economies.

Confident Learners

Confident Communicators

Confident Future Citizens

To create confident learners, the Geography curriculum is:

  • designed to enable students to progress with their written, questioning, and discussion skills when looking at real life events and phenomena.

To create confident communicators, the Geography curriculum is:

  • designed to encourage debate and discussion of topical issues, regarding both human and physical aspects of geography.

To create confident future citizens, the Geography curriculum:

  • reflects an appreciation of different cultures and points of view, and it arms our students with the knowledge and skills to be able to question, debate and value the world around them.

The Geography curriculum provides opportunities for all to:

  • understand and appreciate why people make the decisions they do, and how people respond to different human situations and natural hazards.

The Geography curriculum provides opportunities for all to:

  • put forward their opinion, safe in the knowledge that their opinions matter, and that they will be heard and respected.

The Geography curriculum provides opportunities for all to:

  • make an impact through activities that create confidence and empowerment.
